Learn more about two important areas of application of safectory tracking in the hospital sector – the  tracking of medical equipment and the  tracking of persons  (patients, medical personnel).

Relevant use cases of safectory tracking in the hospital sector and their areas of application in combination are:

Asset Tracking

Why is tracking carried out, how is it useful?

  • To find objects faster / localisation of aids
  • To carry out automatic stocktaking
  • To trigger alarms in the event of theft (Geofences)
  • To get information about the current status of aids
  • To trigger defined actions of medical employees
  • and much more

What can be tracked?

  • Beds
  • Wheelchairs
  • Infusion equipment
  • Transport containers
  • Movable technical equipment (such as ultrasound devices)
  • Etc.

How does this work?

  • Installation of beacon infrastructure in the hospital (as location reference):
    –  1 beacon per room (if tracking is to be carried out in a room-specific manner)
    –  and 2 – 3 beacons per floor (zone-specific)
  • 1 – 2 controllers are installed for every station for the data transfer or data forwarding
  • Asset tags (BLE transmitters, bluetooth low energy) are installed on the objects, which are localised using the beacon infrastructure
  • Beyond the localisation, status information can be stored for the asset tags, which then triggers assigned actions of employees in a programme-controlled manner when required.
Examples: “this bed is occupied”; or: “this bed must be cleaned” – preferably with initiation of an action of the nearest accessible / available employee.

Tracking of persons (patient tracking, employee tracking)

Why is tracking carried out, how is it useful?

  • Patients can be found in a better way / localisation of patients
  • Alerting nursing staff in critical cases
  • Measurement of maintenance and lead times in the treatment departments
  • Waiting and lead times are optimised
  • Medical employees can be found and deployed faster
  • Medical employees can be automatically informed in case of status changes of asset tags and can be deployed for special tasks.

How does this work?

  • Use of the same infrastructure as described above
  • The patients get an armband with the BLE tag (bluetooth low energy tag)
  • Even employees can get an armband with the BLE tag
  • Optionally, medical employees can be notified about status changes of assets through the smartphone in order to then execute the actions designated for this

With the use of the safectory beacon and controller infrastructure, the localisation, protection and management of objects in the hospital sector is optimised and costs are saved. Through better localisation of  patients as well as of employees, one can intervene faster in emergencies. This can also improve the procedure in the maintenance and treatment departments considerably and an automated course of standard tasks can be set.
